The Democratic Luxury Experience

The Democratic Luxury Experience

It’s June, the month in which the hottest of all seasons starts but also the month where we celebrate the pride of the LGBTQ+ community and pride is not only rainbows: it is also about being an ally, honoring and accepting each other’s differences.

At Fancy Lux we believe that everyone is entitled to freely express himself/herself and, for this reason, we celebrate LGBTQ+ pride month and promote through our platform its core values of self affirmation, dignity and equality, offering a unique democratic luxury shopping experience.

We love all, and everyone is indiscriminately welcome to benefit from our services and enjoy our one of a kind way of interpreting second-hand luxury. The care about civil rights is to make a better and more sustainable world, and here at Fancy Lux we not only care about environmental sustainability by selling authenticated pre-owned luxury fashion items, but we also care about human suitability and we believe in creating the best possible society for everyone to be loved, accepted and respected.

Thought the years the fashion industry has been an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and help promote civil rights. Many luxury brands have worked on Pride capsule collections, in many instances partnering with organisations that advocate, promote and and fight for LGBTQ+ rights. Among others we have Balenciaga x The Trevor Project, Stuart Weitzman x It Gets Better Project, Levis x OurRight Action International and Calvin Klein x Transgender Legal Defence and Education Found.

Why in June?

We have come a long way in promoting LGBTQ+ rights, but still a lot needs to be done and allyship is fundamental to reach the goal of equality. But where did the tradition of celebrating pride month in June started?

The first pride march took place on June 28 1970, according to the New York Times, exactly 51 years ago to the date. The organisers choose this specific date because they wanted to celebrate the one year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprisings, a series of protests in defence of gay rights that started spontaneously on June 28 1969 after the police raided the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, New York City.

Through the years more and more cities across the USA and the world started to organise parades to support LGBTQ+ community rights keeping on June, the 28 as fixed day and in 1999 US president Bill Clinton declares June to be the Gay and Lesbian pride month.

Thanks to the stonewall riots, that have become a fundamental and pivotal moment of the history of civil rights, the rights of the LGBTQ+ community have stated to gain an increased relevance and Pride month has become a world wide celebration of the LGBTQ+ communities all around the globe.

Fancy Lux is the pre-loved luxury shopping experience equally accessible to everyone: whichever are your needs and tastes on our website you will be able to find the perfect answer to your heart’s desires.
